The Spaso-Preobrazhensky ("Transfiguration of the Saviour") Patriarchal Monastery in Valaam is the pearl of Lake Ladoga and one of the oldest monasteries in Russia

Valaam Monastery dates back to the 12th Century. It has frequently been subjected to bloody raids, looting and neglect; but has always risen from the ruins. Today, the monastery is one of the centres of Russian Orthodoxy.

We wish to preserve this unique architectural complex and the natural beauty of Valaam for future generations. The Foundation has helped renovate the huge All Saints Skete originally built by Alexei Gornostaev, the famous architect and founder of "Russian Style"architecture.

To date, the exterior of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral has been restored, the Monastery’s Central Area has been landscaped and the historical layout of the Monastery’s bay has been restored.
