Implementing the project

In the last few years, the Foundation has supported projects to: restore the frescoes of the magnificent Cathedral of the Transfiguration and the building of the Summer Hotel; re-establish the breathtaking beauty of the St. Vladimir Skete; and re-create the Smolensk Skete from ruins, where remembrance services are held once again for Russian soldiers.

Restoration work on the biggest skete on Valaam is currently nearing completion: the All-Saints Skete is one of the finest examples of work of the outstanding Russian church architect A. Gornostaev.  In July 2011, the Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia, Kirill, will consecrate the upper part of the church in the name of the heavenly host of the All-Saints Skete.

At present, restoration work is in progress on the bell-tower of the Cathedral of Transfiguration, as is work to landscape the Monastery’s central area.
