Focus on Family

The Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko announces the 3rd Focus on the Family All-Russian Competition for childhood professionals and foster parents. The purpose of the competition is to improve the quality, availability, accessibility and affordability of professional assistance to foster families and parentless children. The winners will be given an opportunity to review the best practices and procedures for the prevention of social orphanhood when studying with training providers.

The distinctive feature of Focus on Family is its support for projects facilitating the exchange of solutions and practices between Russian professionals at more than 40 training locations. The training is provided by the organizations that win the Family Fairway competition - the Timchenko Foundation provides backing in the context of this competition to organizations that have proved the effectiveness of their practices, methodologies and procedures used to address the problem of orphanhood.

In 2016-2017, Focus on the Family sponsored 40 projects from 35 provinces whose teams received training in practices for implementing mentoring, in solutions for preventing parents from giving up their biological and foster, in working with families that foster HIV-positive children, and in bringing back together children and their biological families. Their training completed, the participants put their newly gained expertise to practical use, implementing approaches or solutions.

The organizers believe it important that the best practices in childhood protection be made not only available but also effective tools for professionals and in family life, and facilitate sustainable development and improvement in children's well-being.

“No child can develop into a successful, socially engaged and well-rounded individual unless raised in a family or in family-like environment – this is borne out by research. That is why we find it very important to support childhood protection professionals: children's well-being depends not only on their personal qualities, empathy and kindness, but also on their knowledge, professional competencies and skills in using effective solutions for managing children, parents, foster parents and blood relatives. The Focus on the Family competition revolves around the real needs of professionals. That is why this year's innovation is that we set no deadlines for entries”, says Elvira Garifulina, head of the Family and Children programme at the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko, in discussing the competition.

Competition entries can be submitted starting 28 February 2018 until notice that the competition is closed upon reaching the end of its funding. The winners will be funded 10 to 100 thou. roubles.
