Social Program Day held during Russian Championship Superfinals in Satka

Superfinals of the 71st Russian Men’s Championship and the 68th Russian Women's Championship are held in Satka, Chelyabinsk Region, from August 24 to September 6, 2018.

Following the tradition, a Social Program Day is organized within the framework of the Russian Championship Superfinals when famous grandmasters play simultaneous displays with young chess players and veterans. This time the event was organized at the Magnezit Palace of Sports. 92 chess players of all ages from various locations in Chelyabinsk Region took part in the event. Grandmasters Mikhail Kobalia, Aleksandr Morozevich, Sergei Rublevsky, Pavel Tregubov and Dmitry Kryakvin served as simultaneous display partners.

The guest of the display was Igor Baradachev, Deputy General Director of the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, who shared his impressions from the event:

- The Russian Chess Federation and the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation have been organizing social program days during major sports competitions for many years. Displays are always popular with children and veterans. This time close to one hundred chess aficionados wishing to play their game with grandmasters appeared at the event, and they came not only from Satka and Chelyabinsk, but also from many other locations and villages of the region. It is very quiet in the hall, as they all keep racking their brains trying to provide a suitable challenge to the eminent grandmasters. We have been conducting such events in the regions to make chess more popular, because meeting Russian chess legends becomes a great event for kids.

Despite the long struggle and resolute defense of their challengers, Sergei Rublevsky, Aleksandr Morozevich and Pavel Tregubov won all games. Mikhail Kobalia won all games getting a draw only with Mikhail Larin. Timur Safin could win the game with Dmitry Kryakvin and Viktor Bogachyov ended his game with the grandmaster in a draw.

All participants received gifts from the organizers, and Timur Safin, Viktor Bogachyov and Mikhail Larin got special prizes.

6 days out of 11 were already played at the Superfinals. Leaders in the men’s tournament are Daniel Dubov, Ernesto Inarkiev, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Alexey Sarana, Grigory Oparin, and Dmitry Andreykin, with 3.5 points each. In women’s tournament Olga Girya and Alina Kashlinskaya are leading, with 4 points each.

The organizers of the superfinals were the Russian Chess Federation, the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, the government of the Chelyabinsk Region and the Magnezit Group. The tournament is supported by Renault Russia, PJSC "FGC UES" and PJSC "PhosAgro". The logistics partner of the Russian Chess Federation is FSUE Russian Post.

The tournament continued the Chess in Museums program, which the Russian Chess Federation has been implementing with the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation since 2012. During the Superfinals at the Magnezit Palace of Culture, an exhibition of the works by Geliy Korzhev (1925-2012), a Soviet and Russian painter, representative of the "severe style», was presented.
