Children's sledge hockey team opens in Moscow Oblast

The Ice Palace sports and entertainment centre in Odintsovo invites children with disabilities to join the sledge hockey team called Umka - the name was suggested by the members themselves. Sponsored by the Timchenko Foundation, the team started training in mid October. It was not until yesterday, however, that an opening ceremony took place. Among those who came to support the sporting children was Roman Teryushkov, sports minister of Moscow Oblast, Igor Baradachev, deputy CEO, Timchenko Foundation, Andrey Ivanov, head of the Odintsovo District, and Dmitry Kotyrev, director of Paralympic Sports Centre GBU [Publicly Funded State Institution (PFSI)] MO [Moscow Oblast].

Best Russian team of White Rook-2017 defeats French schoolchildren

A chess tournament between school teams in the south of France was held by the Russian Chess Federation with support from Renault Russia and the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko. It was a reward for the schoolchildren from Yekaterinburg lyceum No 180, Poliforum, who had bested the other Russian chess players in the finals of the White Rook international school team tournament.

Days of future champions at chess club of Ostankino Television Centre
26 and 27 October young chess players from Pskov Oblast were on a visit in Moscow. Pupils from the A.D. Petrov gymnasium came to the Russian capital for sightseeing and playing against grandmaster Ernesto Inarkiev, European Chess Champion (2016). The A.D. Petrov gymnasium in the town of Opochka has for 2 years now been an active participant in Chess at Schools, a joint project of the RCF and the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko, and has emerged as a major centre for chess education. On 1 July the gymnasium became home to the All-Russian Resource Centre for Chess Teacher Training and Upskilling.

18 requests were submitted for second-year support. The working groups have selected 16 organizations that will receive support from the Timchenko Foundation and will be able to continue implementing the projects that won the Cultural Mosaic: Affiliate Network competition. Two more organizations are on the waiting list, with the decision to grant or deny support to be announced by 30 November.

The Volkhonka Mansion in Bolshoy Znamensky Pereulok in Moscow hosted a public discussion called “Age as an Art”. Yury Solomin, People's Artiste of the RSFSR and the USSR, Vsevolod Shilovsky, People's Artiste of the RSFSR, and Meritorious Artiste Russia, Inessa Molodtsova, a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre, shared their personal experiences and thoughts on the third age. The meeting was moderated by Fyokla Tolstaya, a journalist and a TV and radio presenter.

The Cultural Mosaic of Towns and Villages programme has already expanded beyond the grants competition and turned into a platform for exploring new meanings, models and solutions for regional growth. The discussion also touched on a long-term strategy for Russia's territorial growth.
