Winners will be eligible for up to 1 mln roubles in funding for projects to promote hockey among children and teenagers with disabilities.

The Children’s Sledge Hockey League Independent Not-for-Profit Organization announces a Hockey for All open competition with support from the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko.

The competition is designed to support projects to promote disabled hockey and children’s sledge hockey in Russian provinces, create new and support the existing teams, and upskill inclusive hockey coaches and managers.

“Sledge hockey is gaining popularity in Russia, and every year sees more and more people wishing to promote the sport in their area. The competition can enable them to make their dream come true and help kids with disabilities to do sports. By the same token, the existing teams are given an opportunity to better organize their activities and have more contacts with kids from other provinces. Thanks to the competition, our hockey family is growing larger and more diverse every year,” said Igor Baradachev, head of the Sports programme at the Timchenko Foundation.

Funding will be made available to initiatives aimed at promoting disabled hockey as an effective solution for physical and social rehabilitation. The invitation is extended to officially registered Russian non-profits experienced in working with families that have children with disabilities.

The Promotion Impetus drive will fund projects to form new teams up to 1 million roubles. The teams will be able to use the funding to rent sports facilities, buy supplies and gear, pay for the services of coaches, transport and technical costs of getting the training process underway.

Russia’s 16 children’s sledge hockey teams will be eligible for funding under the Integration Impetus category. The project budget of entrants must also be capped at 1 million roubles. The funds can be applied towards organizing friendlies, training meets, tournaments, festivals, training events, as well as growing the team.

Competition entries will be accepted between 15 January and 14 February 2020.

The competition’s results will be published 3 March 2020 on the websites of Children’s Sledge Hockey League and the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko.
