The Media Centre pavilion in the Zaryadye park hosted the award presentation to the winners of the 5th Photo Competition of the Russian Geographical Society, The Most Beautiful Country. The Timchenko Foundation presented a special category, Russia in Aged Faces, for the best portrait photograph of senior citizens.
The victory in the category went to the work “Life’s Journey” by Vladimir Zaitsev from Arkhangelsk Oblast. The winner will receive a travel voucher for Russia, worth 100,000 roubles. The winner will have discretion in choosing his travel route.
The photo competition was held between 1 October 2018 and 14 April 2019, with nearly 42,000 photographs entered. The shortlisted works were displayed at a show that took place from 16 August to 8 September at the Museum of Modern Russian History in Moscow.
The first Most Beautiful Country photo competition took place in 2015. It had about 200,000 submissions from 25,000 entrants. The project attracted a lot of public interest and became an annual event. The shortlisted works are successfully displayed at airports, culture centres and in Moscow boulevards.
The competition is designed to highlight Russia’s natural, historical and cultural heritage and to promote consideration for the environment through the art of photography. You can submit your works to the competition in twelve categories: Landscape, From Sun-up to Sun-down, Wild Animals, Birds, Macrocosm, Underwater World, Amusing Pets, Wildlife Art, A Bird’s-Eye View of Russia, The Many Faces of Russia, Architecture, Taken with a Smartphone.
