The opening of the third interstate Good Ice Cup children’s hockey competition will take place 26 March in the town of Kukmor. The tournament is part of the Good Ice programme sponsored by the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
The opening day will start with a teleconference, which will link three states that are participating in the Cup: the Republic of Tatarstan and Murmansk and Irkutsk Oblasts. After the teleconference, the Hockey Museum (Moscow) will present a mobile exhibition, which displays Olympic cups, signed hockey sticks, souvenir pucks and other items of interest to children and grown-ups.
The event will be joined by Andrey Ryabov, vice president of the Hockey Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kirill Golubev, executive director of the Hockey Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, leaders of the Good Ice programme and hockey federations, and Cup entrants.
The opening ceremony of the third Good Ice Cup will take place at the Olimp [Olympus] Ice Palace. Tickets to the semi-finals from the Republic of Tatarstan will be contested by four teams: Serebryaniye Volki [Silver Wolves] (Elabuga), Tornado (Chistopol), Jaguar (Kukmor), and Neftyanik (Leninogorsk). The third Good Ice Cup will for the first time be joined by teams from the Republic of Tatarstan, Irkutsk Oblast and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). A total of 72 teams from 16 states will be vying for the Cup.
The Good Ice Cup is becoming increasingly more popular: this year the competition has been entered by more than twenty teams, and Murmansk Oblast, the Chuvash Republic, Irkutsk and Amur Oblasts will host extended provincial rounds.
