Tough Girls Hockey

Feb 28, 2020 at 19:21 • Sport

Between 1 and 4 March, St Petersburg will host a Tough Girls Hockey all-girl team tournament. The northern capital hosts the competitions on the eve of International Women’s Day for a fourth time now. The tournament is organized by the Good Ice programme of the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko and is essentially a unique project for Russia, where the fair sex does not have many opportunities to gain invaluable experience playing against all-female rather than mixed-sex teams. The promotion of female hockey is an area of focus for the Good Ice programme; such tournaments facilitate its promotion and the necessary development of female players. Of equal importance is the factor of complementarity: the sporting girls will not only compete for the championship’s trophies but also make a number of tours around St Petersburg, take part in team-building exercises and visit Moscow’s Hockey Museum.

The fourth Tough Girls Hockey tournament will be joined by the following teams:

— SKA-Avrora (St Petersburg)

— Combined team of Nizhny-Novgorod Oblast

— Combined team of Perm Krai

— Combined team of Tatarstan

— Combined team of the Northwest
