The ice hockey tournament in memory of two-time Olympic champion V.B.Kharlamov among children born 2008-2009 took place in the Butyrsky district 6-8 January.

First place was claimed by Lvy TsKhM [The Lions of the Hockey Excellence Centre (HEC)], a team from the Northwest Administrative District. Silver went to the Northeast District’s Yunior [Junior]. Third spot was taken by Arsenal, another team from the District, followed by Vympel from SAO [Northern Administrative District (NAD)].

What was important for the young hockey players was not only participation in a Valery Kharlamov memorial tournament, but also rubbing shoulders with those who knew the great hockey player, coached him and played with him. The organizers invited Vitaly Yerfilov, Meritorious Coach of Russia, who had coached Valery Kharlamov. He told the children about the great player, two-time Olympic champion. Valery Yerfilov also spoke at the tournament closing ceremony, saying that many Olympic champions had taken their first steps playing hockey in the neighbourhood rinks.

All tournament participants received mementoes with the tournament’s logos such as tank tops, baseball caps, a puck, a pennon and a certificate of merit.
