Good Ice competition

Announcement of competition outcome 30 May 2018

The Good Ice competition for children’s hockey promotion projects competition has been running since 2012. It currently spans over four federal districts: the Northwest, the Volgian, the Far-Eastern and the Siberian.

Preference is given to entries from enterprising people, willing to promote the sport locally. The Foundation’s affiliates sponsor equipment for young hockey players, tournaments and festivals, training and refresher courses for children’s hockey coaches. Implementation assistance is provided on a priority basis to projects from towns and rural area where opportunities for promoting children’s hockey are extremely limited.

Purpose of the competition

Support for children’s ice hockey promotion initiatives that improve the sports infrastructure.

Areas of focus

  • encourage children from towns and rural areas to take up ice hockey;
  • make sport activities appealing to disadvantaged children (from single-parent and large families; from at-risk families; those with disabilities);
  • support for initiatives by coaches at children’s sports schools and educational establishments and by amateur coaches to promote hockey and increase the numbers of children who play ice hockey.

Competition categories

  • First Steps on Ice, for kids up to six years old, including skating 101;
  • Tough Girls Hockey, promotion of all-female ice hockey and management of female teams;
  • Our Backyard Team, promotion of backyard ice hockey in towns and rural areas;
  • Hockey for All, making sport activities appealing to disadvantaged children.
